Standard Operating Procedure

Being a highly regulated industry, theme park standard operating procedures, such as this example, are a knowledge resource for operators, a benchmark for state auditors, and a required component of meeting regulatory requirements.


Power Up Procedures

The attraction is powered up at the direction of the Hourly Supervisor or Manager. Each person who is tagged out or locked out is required to be accounted for before the attraction is powered up. To power up the attraction, perform the following:

1. Deliver the Pre-power Up spiel 10 seconds prior to powering up the attraction.

2. Press IN the ALL RIDE PA button and deliver the Pre-power Up spiel.

3. Verify the SHOW SHUTDOWN button is in the UP position.

4. Notify Maintenance if the SHOW SHUTDOWN button is pressed IN.

  • Verify the TRACK TRIGGER DISABLE button is deactivated.

Note: The TRACK TRIGGER DISABLE button is extinguished when deactivated.

5. Verify the MAINTENANCE ENABLE key switch does not have a key in it and is in the INACTIVE position.

6. Use the E-158 key to release the POWER DISCONNECT button.

Note: When the attraction is powered up with vehicles on the track, the Ride Control System (RCS) does not immediately recognize vehicle location. The RCS recognizes vehicle locations when the VEHICLE START button is pressed IN and the vehicles traverse through two wayside zones.

7. Use the E-158 key to release the EMERGENCY STOP button.

Note: The POWER DISCONNECT RESET button flashes when it is ready to be reset.

8. Press IN the POWER DISCONNECT RESET button to reset the POWER DISCONNECT button.

Note: The MAINT and NORMAL SYSTEM MODE lights flash when a system mode may be selected.

9. Use the SYSTEM MODE toggle switch to select the appropriate mode.

10. For Normal Mode, turn the SYSTEM MODE toggle switch to NORMAL.

Note: The APEX Monitor displays, “Normal Mode Selected.” The EMERGENCY STOP RESET button flashes.

Note: Normal Mode is utilized when the attraction operates with customers. Maintenance Mode is used by Maintenance for equipment testing and minor vehicle movement.

WARNING: DO NOT USE MAINTENANCE MODE WHILE CUSTOMERS ARE PRESENT WITHOUT DIRECTION FROM MAINTENANCE.

11. Reset the EMERGENCY STOP button by pressing IN the EMERGENCY STOP RESET button.

Track Power Stop and Emergency Stop Test

Perform the following Track Power Stop and Emergency Stop Test:

1. Check the Tower Console for any locks and/or tags and verify locks and keys are returned to the RAC Board and all Identification Cards have been retrieved, then power up the attraction in Normal Mode.

WARNING: NO ATTRACTION MOTION WILL OCCUR UNTIL ALL LOCKS AND RAC IDENTIFICATION CARDS ARE ACCOUNTED FOR OR UNLESS DIRECTED BY THE RESORT MANAGER, ATTRACTIONS MANAGER AND MAINTENANCE MANAGER.

2. With the attraction powered up in Normal Mode, verify the functionality of the TRACK POWER STOP button at the Tower Console.

  • Verify the TRACK POWER STOP button can be pressed IN and pulled UP.

3. With the attraction powered up in Normal Mode, verify the functionality of the TRACK POWER STOP button at the Tower Console.

  • Verify the TRACK POWER STOP button can be pressed IN and pulled UP.
  • Verify on the APEX Monitor a message indicates the TRACK POWER STOP button was pressed IN.

4. With the attraction powered up in Normal Mode, verify the functionality of the EMERGENCY STOP button at the Tower Console.

  • Verify the EMERGENCY STOP button can be pressed IN and pulled UP.
  • Verify on the APEX Monitor a message indicates the EMERGENCY STOP button was pressed IN.

5. Verify the Tower APEX Monitor indicates the EMERGENCY STOP buttons at the Belt Check, Unload Front, Unload Rear, and CWD Station Consoles were pressed IN.

Note: A message displays on the APEX Monitor indicating which consoles initiated an Emergency Stop.

Note: It is not necessary to power down and power up between the testing of each EMERGENCY STOP button.

6. Verify the following buttons are in the UP position at the Tower Console:

  • EMERGENCY STOP button.
  • TRACK POWER STOP button.
  • STATION STOP button.

7. Power down the attraction by pressing IN the EMERGENCY STOP key switch followed by pressing IN the POWER DISCONNECT key switch, and then power up the attraction in Normal Mode.
